at first i thought we would be in the bush or in the workplace at all times, but on the contrary we were in a hall most of the time. i was disappointed at first but after a few days, realized that it was valuable information and lessons they tough us. We learned the policies and procedures, layouts, history etc. I did in fact gain some knowledge of a Nature reserve like Sondela did a few exercises about communication and the importance of communicating clearly.
What i realised in this week:
* Ironing is important
*Keep your hand out of your pockets!!!!
*Deliver a message yourself
*Don't sit near your friend because Chef will keep you apart for the rest of the year.
*practise talking in front of people in your spare time, if you are so lucky.....
In week two we did first aid. We had so much fun doing CPR on dummies. i did learn more on this first aid course than i did on my first one. refreshed my skills. we can now assist in accidents. this course came in handy when a boy fell of his bike on the resort. he had severe bleeding on his leg as the spikes on the bike pushed into his flesh. i cleaned it and bandagged his leg neatly. i was happy that i actually knew what to do.
after first aid we did fire fighting. yust basics really. they put us in a busy kitchen and bandaged our eyes to trigger servival instincts. put ur hand against the wall and find the nearest exit. thats the rule....
in week three we did basic customer care and how to exceed customer care. this was usefull as the 'telephone skills' we practised helped when i started my 9 week reception certificate. now im pro on telephone, switch board and reservations.
